Anna Fox Ryan | February Artist of the Month

A native of Charlottesville, Virginia, Anna Fox Ryan made her way to Savannah, Georgia, to study illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design. There, she honed her conceptualization and design skills and eventually crossed the bridge to fine art as an oil painter. In 2008 she completed her degree and has since created a bold commentary on the effects of mass industrialization on society and the environment.
2008 was Anna Fox Ryan’s first year in the art scene. During that time she constantly painted and promoted herself. She broadened her collector base to include patrons in Europe, New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Atlanta. In 2008 alone, Fox Ryan held three solo exhibitions, participated in numerous juried exhibitions and began working with international Artists Representative, Ze Santa-Rita.
Fox Ryan’s oil paintings examine the dualities of human corruption and faith. Industry is directly depicted as physical manifestations of corruption while hope and religion are revealed through symbolism to question individual perceptions, reactions and, in some cases, justifications of corrupt actions. Anna's concepts continue to evolve with current works analyzing industry's impact on health and fertility. Anna Fox Ryan currently works out of her Studio in Savannah Georgia, preparing to step out of the south and into the next phase of her career.

An Artist Reception will be held on Monday, February 1st at 5pm to kick off the month.  Chef Jeffery Rodgers will be providing complimentary hor doeuvres and Casey will be behind the bar mixing up your favorite cocktails!

An International Local - January's Gallery Opening

December's gallery opening featuring artist Alexandro Santana was an unprecedented success. Guests enjoyed complimentary cocktails and fabulous hor d'oeuvres prepared by Chef de Cusine, Jeffery Rodgers. This month Local 11ten proudly presents a true local, Greg Carter and his works entitled "Visual Dissections from the Information Bloat."

Greg Carter grew-up in the South Georgia town of Statesboro. It was in this college town were Carter’s initial artistic interests were nurtured by foreign films and eclectic art exhibitions. Carter received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a duel major in painting and printmaking from Atlanta College of Art in Atlanta, Georgia where his talents was acknowledged with the James V. Carmichael award for outstanding achievement. In 1987, Carter began working on his Master of Fine Arts degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey – in close proximity to New York City. At Rutgers, Carter seriously developed his unique painting and printing styles. He also began his teaching career in New Jersey, responsible for courses in printmaking and art history.

After graduating from Rutgers University in 1989, Carter received the prestigious Fulbright Hayes Scholar Award to research contemporary Scandinavian painting and printmaking in Helsinki Finland. Carter spent a year in Finland developing his ideas and techniques in relief printmaking, painting and began to develop his love of color and light, which can be seen in his mature work. Upon return from Finland he married fellow artist Patricia Wasson and began a duel career as artist and professor. He served on the Executive Board of the Southern Graphics Council for nine years, culminating in the organizations President from 2000-2003. After teaching at Georgia Southern University for 12 years, Carter stepped down to pursue his art full time and is co-owner of Gallery 33 West in Statesboro and sole proprietor of Carter Fine Arts

Carter exhibits widely throughout the United States and Internationally. Solo exhibitions include Words and Pictures at Valdosta State University, Valdosta Georgia and Modes of Extension at the University of North Umbria in Newcastle and the University of Falmouth, Falmouth Great Britain. Group exhibitions include Multiple Hemispheres, Museo Emillo Caraffa, Cordoba Argentina and What is a Print, Long Gallery, University of Willongong, Willongong, New South Wales. His work is included in many private and corporate collections.
